Pregnancy tests are determined based on the detection on HCG hormone that gets secreted by pregnant women. This hormone can be detected by specialized tests with urine or blood samples. HCG levels in the blood take a little longer to accumulate but the urine samples can contain early traces of excess HCG hormones and proper test equipment can detect them accurately. It is generally determined that pregnancy can be detected as early as six days of conception and complete confirmation can be done on the 15^th day. Earliest pregnancy tests are broadly classified into three categories: Tests done in 6 to 8 days, 9 to 11 days and 12 to 15 days.

Early pregnancy test done in 6 to 8 days: Blood tests to determine HCG levels can be inconclusive at this stage. HCG takes time to accumulate and get absorbed into the blood stream. The body might not have adequate levels of this hormone and as a result, there might not be any traces of it in the blood. In fact, blood tests are not done at this stage unless specifically prescribed by the Doctor. Urine tests are more effective in detecting the hormones. Earliest pregnancy test can be done on the sixth day. The accuracy levels of the urine tests can range from 60% to 80%. People who test negative will have to wait for the next cycle before taking the test again.

Early pregnancy test done in 9 to 11 days: The accuracy levels of urine tests done in this cycle are up to 95%. It effectively means that pregnancy can be more or less determined during this cycle. Blood tests are also effective in this cycle as the body would have enough absorbed concentration levels of HCG hormones. There is a chance of inaccuracy in some cases as the hormone levels can inherently be low in some women. It is understood that one in ten women have low HCG levels even if they have conceived. People who test negative in this cycle will need to wait for the next cycle to conduct additional tests.

Early pregnancy test done in 12 to 15 days: Both types of the tests are 100% accurate in this cycle. The blood and urine samples either have the HCG hormones or they don’t. There is no way these hormones can be undetected after 12 days. Even people having low HCG levels have adequate concentrations for the tests to detect. People who have seen negative results in this cycle are not pregnant.
